Work, work, work!

Students have had a lot of fun this week using their own microscopes to look at the cells in an onion (yes, they really work!).

Also, they used "Versatiles" to practice their addition and subtraction facts!

And the most exciting thing from this week is our new student teacher, Miss Alyssa Briggs from Birmingham Southern College! She will be with our class until mid-October!

Mystery Slides

The class began using their microscopes this week! In this activity, students looked at several "mystery" slides that looked similar to see if they could figure out the item based on what it looked like under the microscope.

Comics and Magnifiers

Students have been learning all about magnifiers and how they work to make objects more detailed.  Next week we will begin looking at surfaces that cause magnification and using microscopes to view speciments.

We also learning all about parts of speech using comics as part of the project.  It has certainly made grammar more exciting!

Math Time!

In math this week, students played a couple of games to help them learn how to order themselves based on numbers through the billions place.  We also began our intensive math problem solving called "Math Menus".

First Week of School

It has been a great beginning to the school year!  Students have already begun working hard on projects in class!  Here are a few shots that I captured of students working on their "About Me" poster.
